Gabriels 11 hónapot töltött nálunk…

Gabriels 11 hónapot töltött az Európai Szolidaritási Testület támogatásával Pécsváradon. Az alábbiakban az ő élménybeszámolóját olvashatjátok az itt töltött idejéről.

Hello again! I can’t believe the 11 months are over already, and my time in Hungary has come to an end. The previous article was at the five-month mark and the European Union Information Day. In this one, I will try and recall the events that followed.

The first activity that comes to mind is the trash collection day. We split into small groups and went to collect trash. When we were done, we met up at the lake to have a small picnic. The lake grounds were very nice and well-kept. I loved the scenery.

These next ones are in no particular order because I don’t remember them that well. We needed to think of games and activities for the children’s day, which took place in the old stadium. It was a short event where we played with the kids and got pizza. Then there was the city day, which took place in the castle’s garden/park. We managed the activities for the kids – rope walking, arts and crafts. It was a fun day because of the kids and the good weather. And it was nice seeing all the kids from the kindergarten.

We also explored more of Pécsvárad and the nature surrounding it, especially the mountain. We also went to Pécs quite a few times. And we went to Orfű, the nature there is just breathtaking.

We also had our mid-term volunteering meeting in Visegrád. I loved it there. The town was amazing, the surrounding nature was stunning, and the hotel was fantastic. I spent most of my time in the pool or sauna, relaxing with the other volunteers.

Later in the summer, we needed to organize some activities for a children’s summer camp, which was fun. The children were easy to work with because they knew English and had no problems with understanding us. Of course, the best part was the free food. And the camp was next to the lake so I went swimming every day I was there.

We also had to go to a small village and organize games for their city day. It was nice, the people were friendly, and the atmosphere there was generally pleasant. They also had a booth where they were making Langosh all day, and it was free, so I was happy. When it was nearing the end, they had a dog show. It was quite fun.

The last thing we did as volunteers was help organize a small light festival in a village called Zengővárkony. We mainly helped with hanging things on trees. It was nice until it came time for us to go home, and a lightning storm started. We made it home, but we were a little tense by the end of it.

In conclusion, these 11 months were great. I still miss living in Hungary. I’m happy I got to meet many different people and experience new things. If I could, I would do it again. I’m eternally grateful for having the best host organization and the best mentors for the volunteer meetings.

Thanks for everything.

All the best,

Gabriels.
